What’s up with the funeral thing ???

I just saw an old work mate of mine, and my god has he gone down hill, he was an alcoholic when he was forced to leave work and i guess he just continued to be one, now he is about 60 yrs old and looking about 101, i just thought he will die any time soon, and it made me wonder how many people from work will want to go to the funeral, and will I.

But then I wondered why, why go to the funeral, what is the point, the person is dead, do you go to pay your final respects to someone who doesn’t even know you are there, he’s dead after all. Is it to show to other people that he did have people that cared about him? But what is the point of that, he’s dead and his family shouldn’t be concerned with how popular he was.

If someone is killed and it is on the news, that person will get thousands of funeral attendees, where they would usually have struggled to maybe get 50. What kind of joke is that ?

I came to the conclusion that it is kind of a ridiculous tradition and a complete waste of time to go to funerals unless they are close family or your closest friend, and even then you are just following a tradition for the sake of how people will perceive you if you don’t go.

So I wont go to that funeral, or any other funeral unless it is my direct family or best friends.
